On the eighth of August 1999, His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin al -Hussein entrusted H.R.H. Crown Prince Hamzah Bin Al -Hussein with the role of presiding over the Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought. His Majesty furthermore expressed his profound trust of H.R.H. Prince Hamzah and his distinguished contributions as well as his interest in the aims of the Aal al-Bayt Institute. His Majesty has also made certain of the noble goals and the benevolent message which the Aal al-Bayt Institute carries, over and above the lofty responsibilities delegated to it for the purpose of serving humankind, and facilitating the mission of confronting the issues, problems and challenges of the time, while formulating the reassuring solutions, along with other noble goals. All of the preceding call for the presence of a higher authority that can give His Majesty assurance that the goals and purposes of this Institute will obtain his Majesty’s full support. On the sixteenth of July, 2000, H.R.H. Hamzah Bin Al-Hussein entrusted H.R.H. Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad, previously Advisor to His Majesty the King for Tribal Affairs, and currently the Personal Envoy and Special Advisor to H.M the King, owing to the wisdom, knowledge and good qualities of his highness - which render him both trustworthy as well as an object of respect and appreciation - with reconsidering the Institute administrative, financial and organizational affairs with the aim of improving its performance and rendering it at the level of the age and in harmony with its aims. Likewise, the former Academy’s council decided during its meeting no. 171 on the same date to appoint H.R.H. Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad a full member of the Academy. On 19 July 2000, H.R.H. Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad was unanimously elected President of the Academy. The committee, entrusted with reconsidering the Institute’s administrative, financial and organizational affairs, submitted its report to H.R.H. the Higher Chairman; consequently the Academy’s Council decided in its meeting No.(173) on 23 August 2000 to amend the charter of the academy, in which the name of the academy was altered to ”The Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought”. Thus the leadership structure of the Institute became as follows:
